What did the women of the frontier know that I didn't know until recently? Plenty! The fact is that women in the 19th century practiced what we now call "cutting-edge" science. Native America mothers trained their newborns to breathe for proper health, mothers used psychobiotics to treat depression, women baked bread in a way to prevent gluten and other allergies, and families naturally avoided many of the toxins we welcome into our lives.
I've been collecting books to reclaim the wisdom of the homemakers of days gone by. Below are some of my treasures.

Heidi's Collection of Dr. Gundry's Books
Yes, ALL of these books are on my shelves! And while the material overlaps in many, Dr. Gundry's books are ALWAYS worth my investment.
And, besides, I appreciate the opportunity to review any repeated information.
Dr. Gundry's Recipes' Pros: His recipes actually taste really good and are pretty easy to follow.
Dr. Gundry's Recipes' Cons: Prepare yourself for the sticker shock: Eating lectin-free is expensive. Also, some ingredients were difficult for us to obtain.
Note: Dr. Gundry has a wonderful podcast! You can access it for free here.

Dr. Fung is another one of my favorite maverick doctors. The Obesity Code addresses Metabolic Syndrome/Type II Diabetes/Insulin Resistance. The PCOS Plan addresses Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. (There is some overlap in the books because they share hormonal root causes. ) Note: Dr. Fung's very helpful YouTube Channel can be accessed here.

If you've read any of Dr. Mercola's commentary on Covid-19, you know that he is as Maverick and GUTSY as they come! Fat for Fuel is a good resource for any Keto worshippers.
Note: Find Dr. Mercola on YouTube here. |
Vagus Nerve Healing is a simple to understand, no frills guide to Vagus Nerve Basics. (I mean really basic and really easy to understand.) Accessing the Healing Power of the Vagus Nerve is a more complex guide to the nervous system.

BREATHING!
If my memory serves me correctly, this book is PG-13. Be prepared to be shocked by what you don't know about breathing the right way.

History and Gardening
Think you know the critical role gardening played in U.S. history?
Think again. |
Hospitality and Motherhood
I can't emphasize enough how much I LOVE this book! It was written for a primarily LDS audience, but would be suitable for a person of any Christian faith. Read my blog about it.

BRAIN ON FOOD |
Understand your behavior patterns, why you do what you do, and how to improve yourself.
The Enneagram has a long history of use - including an ancient Jewish people. |
This book was written by an entrepreneur, not a medical doctor.
It's an easy-to-read, non-medical approach to human potential and the power of the brain to overcome. |
This book is advanced and reads a lot like a text book. But it's mind-blowing info!
Note: Author uses some PG-13 language. |
