The Story of Faith & Healing Behind the Blog When the Savior bade, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” He wasn’t promising to quiet the storm. He was inviting us to abide with Him in the eye of it. The beauty of the invitation is that the eye will always be large enough in diameter for all who would come to Jesus for refuge. Because I have in recent years endured what I less-than-affectionately refer to as a “Sharknado” in my life, I have come to believe that abiding in the Savior is more than a declaration of faith or a passive, permanent state of blissful being. It is an active state that is often preceded by specific counsel, personal revelation, and a need to carefully follow that Divine guidance. Here’s the problem: A brain that sees a shark around every corner is incapable of wanting to rest (PTSD). As much as I hated my circumstances, I was not accepting the Savior's invitation. I was on high alert – my brain physiologically changed in structure and function to respond to inevitable, upcoming trauma. Somehow, carefully following my own personal revelation, I amassed a pile of books, supplements, and herbs meant to help me escape the flying, man-eating sharks and find my way to the eye of the storm. My story doesn’t end there because once I had found peace in Christ, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to make more changes in my life. This blog begins with the implementation of those changes. -Heidi P.S. Please note that I sought medical help at the onset of my symptoms. They were serious and required attention. What I have written is not meant to imply that anyone can or should replace treatment from a qualified practitioner. I did what I knew to be best for ME. |
