If your homeschooling space also serves double duty as a public space in your home, you may be looking for attractive, not just practical solutions for your "classroom".

My Decor story...

I did what many other insane parents have done: I chose to do major remodling before my oldest

child's wedding.   Suddenly, my dining room/homeschool space, which was once the biggest eyesore in the house, became my favorite room. I determined that no ugly homeschool supplies were coming back into my Pinterest-pretty room. 

​Everything is hiding behind decorative cards!

On the backs of the cards, I write down the week's liturature vocabulary words.
 I will continue to add vocabulary words to the back of the cards each week.  
I can use a different color ink for each week's words. 
Because I am attaching the cards to the shutter with clothes pins, I can also use the decorative cards to cover index cards with the vocabulary words of another subject. 

I also have a handy list of the vocabulary words written on a card that I punched to sit inside my teacher's edition Happy planner .

I am sure you could think of numerous ways to play. We simply choose a card, turn it over, and if the player knows the definition, a point is awarded. The opposing player gets a turn if the word is missed.

Close to the "back to school" section at walmart, I found a polka dot accordion file folder and nearly-matching index card holder.  I can store the decorative cards, the planner insert with the vocabulary words printed on it, and even the corresponding lesson plan pages together in the file folder. 

The index card holder will store my science vocabulary cards that I am making to put behind the decorative cards on the shutter.

Using a folding screen and some file folders I created a gameshow-style study tool that can be used with one or more players.  The 2-minute video below shows my son, Jayce, and I playing the game together.  (I didn't dress up for you. I look the way I often really look during school hours. I am in a Captain America t-shirt and no makeup.)
